How to Choose the Right Air Conditioner for Your Room
Updated Oct 2025 • 7 min read
Picking a split AC isn’t just about brand — it’s about the right capacity (kW), quiet operation, and tidy placement for your room. Here’s the simple checklist we use on surveys.
1) Size the system properly (kW)
- Small bedroom/office (8–15 m²): 2.0–2.5 kW
- Double bedroom/living (16–25 m²): 2.5–3.5 kW
- Larger lounge/open plan (26–40 m²): 4.2–5.0 kW
We fine-tune for ceiling height, glazing, aspect, and heat-gain (appliances/people).
2) Keep it quiet
Good wall units run < 21–25 dB(A) on low — perfect for bedrooms at night.
3) Placement matters
- Indoor: high on a free wall, blowing along the room length.
- Outdoor: firm base, good airflow, considerate to neighbours.
- Pipe routes: keep the neatest run with minimal trunking exposure.
